YouTube content creation is creating fertile grounds for Nollywood failure: – Kanayo O. Kanayo

Veteran Nigerian actor, Kanayo O Kanayo has raised concerns about how YouTube content creation is affecting Nollywood negatively.

The award-winning Nigerian actor is concerned about how actors in Nollywood are all rushing to YouTube to create contents. He believes their actions are setting up Nollywood to fail and to a larger extent, the film industry of Nigerian.

In a video shared on his Instagram handle captioned as; “let this be my word against yours dear colleagues” Kanayo O Kanayo poured out his heart to his fans and colleagues. The renowned actor touched on a lot of sensitive topics that directly affect the actors.

He cautioned actors against the emerging trend, where actors charge producers per day for playing a role on a film project. He further advised actors to be mindful of their health when they are making such demands.

The whole irony of one day shoot is not sustainable. Some of them now make it so difficult for producers and tell you one day shoot is 1 million to 1.5 million… Unfortunately my very high-standing colleague who started this one-day shoot…, unfortunately, he’s not in good health,” he said.

According to Kanayo O Kanayo, there are no deliberately established insurance packages for actors. And since he has been in the industry for more than three decades, he is in a better position to appreciate the issues and challenges in Nollywood.

“…I sat back and watched the opportunities offered by the YouTube channel a very good platform but unfortunately like anything that comes to Nigeria, people jump in and try to mess it up. I watched with dismay and I made this video out of no malice for anybody. It’s been messed up by different things, especially the actors that are doing it,” the legendary actor added.
