A lot of actors and actresses in Ghana have mentioned in interviews, there experiences on the way to become movie stars. A more recent one is by Yvonne Nelson, who mentioned in her memoir, how some filmmakers treated her in line of duty. According to her, she was even suspended for a year for an offence she can’t even tell.
‘The Dead’ actor, Prince David Osei has also shared his side of the victimization upcoming actors go through. He made this known at the third edition of the Graphic Showbiz Forum, on July 25, 2023.
According to the actor, he made it this far in the movie industry because of his determination and desire to succeed. He had to sometimes lose his roles in movies because some producers think he is not qualified. At the time, he “felt unwanted” in the movie industry.
“I felt unwanted in the movie industry. There was this feeling like ‘where is he coming from?’ I felt that bad energy but all the victimization kept me going.“
The ‘Fortune Island’ star also mentioned that, though some producers were sabotaging his career, renowned director Ivan Quashigah believed in his abilities and talents. Based on his experiences, he has advised upcoming actors to be focused and have their eyes on their goals.
“It’s all about you attracting people. Don’t give up when you come face to face with these kind of people who would sabotage you in the industry.”
The actor, model, producer, director and philanthropist has featured in many Ghanaian and Nigerian movies. He also featured in an American movie titled ‘The Dead’. According to Prince, people mocked him when he was cast for this role.
“When I got casted for The Dead, people made mockery of me. Sometimes you go on set, they don’t give you room, you wear something and they tell you it’s too nice. At a point, it was me and Martha Ankomah, Opera Square stopped selling our movies”.
