The crew was in ‘absolute terror’ as Tom Cruise does the Speed-Flying stunt in Mission: Impossible 7 – Director.

The next installment of the Mission: Impossible franchise is set to hit cinemas on July 12, 2023.

As fans around the world anxiously wait for July 12 to hit the theaters, the crew are recounting their experiences on set. A Tom Cruise movie will be incomplete without one of his signature dangerous stunts.

In Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part one, director Christopher McQuarrie has described one of Tom Cruise’s stunts as “one of the most dangerous sports in the world.” As it is typical with Tom Cruise movies, the crew recounts filming the epic speed-flying scene. In the video, Tom Cruise is seen flying at top speed in between rocks and lands at a high speed.

In the video, Christopher McQuarrie explained that since “there are no limits” with Cruise, “we become a little bit more adventurous every time.” And this time, the actor decided to do a “sport very few people on this planet do.”

The filmmaker added that, “while it may look similar, speed-flying is not skydiving. Skydiving is fairly predictable. Speed-flying is incredibly unpredictable.”

With an appreciation for the efforts of Tom Cruise,  McQuarrie said, though it “looks quite beautiful” when “flying very close to rocks,” the crew was in “absolute terror.” He then called the experience “one-of-a-kind adventure.”

In planning for the stunt, Tom Cruise said in the video, “We’re gonna do spirals, and we’re landing at an incredibly high speed, over 80 kilometers an hour.” This tells you how dangerous this stunt looks. Landing at 80 kilometers an hour is something else, but not outside the books of Tom Cruise.

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One is set to hit theaters on July 12.
