Film producers and film production houses spend millions of dollars to produce movies. And they will certainly want to make profits on their investments.
However, their investments are threatened as TV stations and other streaming platforms are showing their movies without seeking for authorization from the filmmakers.
This behavior has necessitated the comment from the veteran Ghanaian actor Kofi Adjorlolo, who is currently shooting a in Nigerian.
Kofi Adjorlolo highlighted the negative impacts this behavior will have on Ghanaian actors and the movie industry at large during an interview on Hit FM’s DayBreak Hitz.
Kofi Adjorlolo is not the first person to call out Ghanaian TV stations on this behavior. Ruth Kadiri, a Nigerian filmmaker also had issues with how major TV stations in Ghana are showing her movies without her authorization.
The Nigerian filmmaker even threatened to sue such TV stations if the behavior continues.
Adjorlolo’s comments highlight how important it is to maintain copyright laws and safeguard intellectual property rights in the entertainment industry.
In addition to violating the rights of Nigerian filmmakers, the unapproved broadcasting of their films compromises the credibility of legitimate content distribution networks.
