The agreement reveals that Bu Vision will be in charge of Olivetheboy’s A&R, while Sony/Columbia Records will handle all licensing, promotion, and distribution of creative works, and Loop Music/FulLCircL Management Ltd will still hold the singer’s records.
Joel Ofori Bonsu, better known by his stage name Olivetheboy, is a Ghanaian singer and songwriter who specializes in Afrobeats music. He is from Konongo in the Ashanti region of Ghana. He gained notoriety in May 2023 when the song Goodsin from his EP Avana started trending on tiktok.
According to Chartmetrics, the song was the most streamed Ghanaian single of 2023, making the youthful prodigy known as Ghana’s hottest musician of 2023.
Olivetheboy announced this achievement through his Instagram handle with a welcome poster from Sony Music Family. He wrote; “Thrilled to announce my signing with the Sony family On behalf of @buvision – @columbiarecords“
The rapidly rising star now joins D’Banj, Davido, Wizkid, and the esteemed classic Angelique Kidjo who are African giants that have been signed with Sony Music.
This is not the first time, Sony Music is snatching a young talent from Ghana. In 2021, the record label signed Ghanian upcoming sensation known worldwide as Gyakie as well.
