“Shirley needs to be celebrated” – Luckie Lawson

A woman setting the pace in a male dominated industry deserves to be celebrated, Luckie Lawson on her experience with Shirley.

Luckie Lawson, an actress and an entrepreneur has stated in an interview with Graphic Showbiz that, Filmmaker Shirley Frimpong-Manso needs to be celebrated for the wonderful things she is doing in the movie industry.

Shirley Frimpong-Manso is a Ghanaian film director, writer, and producer. She is the founder and CEO of Sparrow Productions, a film, television and advertising production company. She won Best Director at the 6th Africa Movie Academy Awards.

Shirley has directed and produced a lot of films such as, Potomanto, Perfect Picture, Potato Potahto, A Sting in a Tale, Devil in the Details, and Contract. She has also won multiple awards for her efforts in the movie industry.

Luckie Lawson, calling on Ghanaians to celebrate Shirley also made clear her admiration for the acclaimed filmmaker Shirley.

“Shirley needs to be celebrated for her contribution to the growth of Ghana’s movie industry. The producer/director role is mostly dominated by men, but Shirley has proven to be one of the best movie producers, challenging her male counterparts and achieving tremendous success. I really admire her for that,”

On a new tv series titled ‘Madam’, Lawson had the opportunity to work with Shirley. And she commended Shirley for her conviction and drive she attaches to her work.

“I knew her to be one of the best but never knew her as someone who never rests until she gets what she wants. She wouldn’t mind asking you to do several takes for one particular scene. In fact, a lot of actors refuse to work with her because she also wants the best. Working with her on ‘Madam’ brought me closer to her, and my love and admiration for her have only increased,”
