The rise in food inflation is the reason for the increase according to the Ghana Statistical Service.
In August 2024, food inflation increased to 22.1 percent from 19.1%. On the other hand, non-food inflation decreased from 21.5% in August 2024 to 20.9%.
According to the data, there was an increase in inflation for both imported and locally manufactured goods.
In August 2024, the percentage of inflation on imported goods rose to 17.0% from 16.1%, while the percentage of inflation on locally manufactured goods decreased to 23.4% from 22.2%.
While tobacco, alcohol, and drugs recorded 27.6% of the total, restaurants and lodging services recorded 27.9%.
Additionally, 26.4 percent was reported for housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels, while 23.7 percent was reported for education services. Food and non-alcoholic drinks were recorded at 22.3%, and health was recorded at 22.3%.
The items’ inflation rates were higher than September 2024’s total inflation rate of 21.5%.
