John Dumelo ready to add ‘Ganja Farming’ to his portfolio after the passage of the Narcotics Control… Bill

Actor, politician and farmer John Dumelo has stated his excitement with regards to the passage of the bill allowing cannabis cultivation.

Mr. Dumelo sees cannabis as a viable complement to his business operations in addition to his successful production of crops including ginger, tubers, grains, and poultry farming.

His choice was made in light of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) Bill, 2023, which was just passed by parliament after successful readings. A section of the original bill was struck out by the Supreme Court citing parliament for procedural errors.

The Interior Ministry now has the power to award licenses for the production of cannabis for industrial or medical uses, provided that the plant has a THC concentration of no more than 0.3% on a dry weight basis.

Mr. Dumelo expressed his joy for this development and warmly embraced this crucial juncture in Ghana’s history. Recognizing the potential benefit of cannabis in numerous industries, he sees this as an opportunity to start growing it.

I’m very excited Parliament has passed the Narcotics Control Commission Amendment Bill 2023, which seeks to decriminalize the cultivation of cannabis for medicinal and industrial purposes. This is a defining moment in Ghana’s history. As a farmer, adding the cultivation of cannabis to my portfolio for medicinal/ industrial purposes is definitely something I’m looking forward to. God bless Ghana.
