Shatta Wale was scheduled to perform at the Wave Africa Artiste Night on Legon campus; but the his performance was cancelled before its due date. This has sparked a lot of talk and debate among social media users and entertainment pundits alike.
June 8, 2024 would have seen both Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy perform at the University of Ghana campus on different platforms. Stonebwoy was billed to perform at the Limann Hall karaoke night event, while Shatta Wale was to perform at the JT Nelson Yankah Hall artiste night event.
It has been widely reported that, the organisers of the Wave Africa Artiste Night claimed they received an order from above to cancel Shatta Wale’s performance.
Speaking on the issue during an interview at Asaase radio, Stonebwoy denied any involvement in the cancellation of Shatta Wale’s performance. According to Stonebwoy, it would be unwise to do so even if he had such powers at his disposal.
“It’s ridiculous. I had nothing at all to do with it. So, I am surprised where the accusations is coming from,” he said.

In addition, the University of Ghana has addressed the issue, dispelling rumors that it despises Shatta Wale and has canceled his concert as a result.
Prof. Rosina Kyeremanten, a dean of the University of Ghana, made it clear that the institution had no problems with Shatta Wale.
“The university has no issues with Shatta Wale. The University is not involved with Shatta Wale. Normally, what happens is that if any event is going to be organized in any hall, a request for approval is sent to my office with an outline of the program they intend to organize.
“When you are having an artiste night, it comes with a lot of implications; security and others. So we need to ensure there is enough security, and that is why you need approval from the University Authority,” she said.
