“In our culture, a man does not kneel down to offer a ring to a woman”: – Pete Edochie

Pete Edochie, a veteran Nigerian actor has shared his opinion on a variety of topics during an interview with Chude Jideonwo.

The celebrated actor lamented over the rate of divorce among actors and actress in Nigerian. He also commented on politics, his near death accident and his experience with some actresses.

According to him, Chioma Chukwuka’s marriage crash came to him as a surprise. Divorce has become common among Nollywood actresses, and Pete Edochie is not happy about it.

He reiterated the importance of the vows taken during marriages. He further advised that people shouldn’t make the mistake of thinking that the other side is better.

“I was shocked that Chioma Chukwa had left her husband, Ireti Doyle, Tonto Dikeh. You take a vow when you are going to get married for better or worst, not for better or out. You will always think it’s greener on the other side, that is the mistake we all make” he said.

Pete Edochie also touched on culture and the role of a man and a woman. As he puts it, “men and women are not equals in the home… In our culture like I said, a man does not kneel down to offer a ring to a woman.”

The multiple award-winning actor also revealed that Genevieve (Nnaji) is his favorite on screen daughter. He added, she took him as her father, and he also took her as his daughter. He however, stated that it has been a while since they spoke.

“Of all the girls who had played my daughter in films, somehow it is Genevieve Nnaji I love most. I look at her as my daughter and she also sees me as a father, she is an exceptionally brilliant lady. I have not heard of her lately ever since I heard she is a little disturbed mentally, I don’t know whether it is true or false, I hope that one day she calls me and say I am ok,” he said.
