The release of the track ‘Brag‘ by Sarkodie has raised a lot of debates among rappers, musicians, entertainment pundits, as well as music lovers. Accorking to the Ghanaian rapper, his song is not meant to jab his fellow musicians.
‘Brag’ is one of the tracks on Sarkodie’s upcoming project ‘The Championship’. Names such as Davido, Wizkid, Burna Boy and Black Sherif are mentioned in the song. And it has led to rap exchanges between Ghanaian and Nigerian rappers.
Dremo, an artist of Davido released a song to counter Sarkodie’s pronouncements in the ‘Brag’ track. Sarkodie, didn’t give Dremo the attention he was seeking for.
However, Ghanaian rappers such as Lyrical Joe have released songs to stand firmly behind Sarkodie. Lyrical Joe’s track ‘1960’ has received a lot of reactions from Nigerians and Ghanaians.
In an interview with VoxAfrica, Sarkodie noted that, he is happy about the organic PR the track is giving him. But, it was not his intention to throw shades at the musicians he mentioned in the song.
Sarkodie mentioned that, the musicians he listed are great in their various fields, but he only used them to make a point. The point being that, he has been in the music scene for a long time.
“I love it because it’s great PR. for Wizkid, David, and Burna, I would never jab them because if I want to jab somebody, it has to be rappers. They are not rappers. I was just talking to rappers about how long I have been there, and as a reference, these are the best people to use. Everybody knows Wizkid, everybody knows Burna Boy, everybody knows Black Sherif, Asake, Davido,” Sarkodie said.
