According to the Spider-Man star, before he went sober, he felt “enslaved” to alcohol. And that going sober is “the best thing” he has ever done. Tom Holland made these comments when he appeared on Jay Shetty’s podcast – On Purpose. After a “very boozy” Christmas, he started a dry January and that led to quitting the alcohol.
During the dry January session, he acknowledged that his thoughts were preoccupied with drinking alcohol. It got him scared because all he “could think about was having a drink.” He also acknowledged that it became more difficult when he decided not to take alcohol after the dry January.
“I felt like I couldn’t be social, I felt like I couldn’t go to the pub and have a lime soda. I couldn’t go out for dinner. I was really, really struggling. I just sort of said to myself: ‘Why? Why am I enslaved to this drink? Why am I so obsessed by the idea of having this drink?'”
He further added that, he challenged himself to go six months without alcohol. And after which he described himself as “the happiest I’ve ever been in my life”.
“I could sleep better. I could handle problems better. Things that would go wrong on set, that would normally set me off, I could take in my stride. I had such better mental clarity. I felt healthier, I felt fitter. I’m happy to say it – I was definitely addicted to alcohol. I’m not shying away from that at all,”
The 27 years old actor added that since he decided to quit alcohol, he feels “amazing.”
