Dr. Hassan Ayariga, the flagbearer of the All People’s Congress (APC), has promised that Ghana will stop borrowing if he wins the presidency in the 2024 elections.

He clarified that the country’s current debt will be paid off, and that his administration would prioritize recovering the natural and mineral riches that are currently controlled by foreign entities.

In an interview with JoyNews News Desk, Dr. Ayariga stated, “Once you claim it, it gives the Ghanaian government a good source of revenue. We are going to increase revenue and productivity in our country, and when we are able to increase revenue and productivity significantly, we will have enough resources to maintain this country, manage it, and start paying our debts bit by bit.”

According to Dr. Ayariga, the national debt would not be wiped off if President Mahama or President Bawumia were to win the presidency.

But if Hassan Ayariga were elected, he claimed, he would restructure the debt to erase some of the amount the country owes.

The APC flagbearer emphasized that a new president signifies a new leadership and government dedicated to developing the nation and paying off debt.

Dr. Ayariga went on to say that those who borrow are ignorant of economics and lack the core abilities required to operate a firm.

“My whole life as a businessman, I have never borrowed. My life as a father, I have never borrowed. My life as a young man, I have never borrowed. So, my life as President, I would not borrow. So, I will continue to invest in our productivity, in our production, manufacturing, and industrial hub to be able to create more jobs and more opportunities for our young men so that we get enough revenue and taxes,” Dr. Ayariga added.
