An issue that gained much attention is Yvonne Nelson’s relationship with rapper Sarkodie. In the book Yvonne Nelson recounts how she got pregnant for Sarkodie and it had to end up in abortion. Yvonne Nelson wrote;
“I had gone for a pregnancy test to confirm what becomes the most obvious conclusion for a sexually active young woman who misses her monthly flow. I was in the company of Karen. And when the test result was ready, I wasn’t strong enough to open it. She did and declared the verdict.”
“I wasn’t the only one responsible for the situation, so I called the man whose potent seed had germinated in me. His name is Michael Owusu Addo, a renowned Ghanaian musician who is better known as Sarkodie”.
The actress also mentioned the pain that she had to go through after she was neglected by Sarkodie. Yvonne Nelson added that Sarkodie drove her to the hospital and left her there by herself. She also mentioned that it was obvious Sarkodie wasn’t ready to carry a burden.
“Sarkodie was a budding musician with the potential to become one of the biggest artists in Ghana and beyond. At the time, however, the future looked uncertain, and his way through the maze of life still appeared too foggy to predict. Success was not guaranteed. He was still living with his mother and was not ready to carry a burden while he was being carried by his mother,”
“The pain, again, was intense and I bled profusely. I felt worse because Sarkodie left me to my fate in the most difficult period. He did not call to check up on me or find out how the procedure had gone.”
The Tema based musician Michael Owusu Addo popularly known as Sarkodie has replied to the allegations by Yvonne Nelson with a song. The song which is titled ‘Try Me’ narrates Sarkodie’s side of the story. The song is made up of strong and punchy lyrics. In the opening rap, Sarkodie came in strong.
“I never thought I was going on this wave, cause I was ready to take a couple of things to my grave. First of all, let me clap for you baby you are brave but you can’t pick and choose what to say please behave, nobody sent you so Ohemaa if you want to talk…”
Sarkodie indicated that he is pained by the narrative that he pushed Yvonne Nelson to go for the abortion. The multiple award-winning rapper acknowledged that he wasn’t ready at that time, but he asked Yvonne Nelson to keep the pregnancy.
“I am not going to sit here and lie we had a thing, first I thought we were cool till I had a thing … You told me you were pregnant and I was the one to be blamed … yes I wasn’t ready but I told you to keep it”
Sarkodie also indicated that as it stands today, he doesn’t believe the story Yvonne Nelson told him about the pregnancy. He also asked Yvonne Nelson to tell the whole story and not to pick and choose.
