I turned down N10 million movie role, though I had not made N1 million before: – Chiwetalu Agu

“I pretend to rise up and said, ‘give me money to go back to Enugu.” Chiwetalu recounts his N20 million movie role.

The Nigerian veteran actor made this revelation during an interview with Chude Jideonwo. According to him, businessman Mike Adenuga offered him N10 million to play a role in a movie.

Chiwetalu Agu mentioned that, though he had not made even N1 million in his career by then, he still wanted more. He insisted that, the businessman pays him N20 million else he walks. His persistence finally paid off as his wish was granted.

He added that the businessman asked him to sit down when he got up to leave. Documents were brought to him to append his signature.

Actor Chiwetalu Agu is from Nigeria. He was named the “best actor in an indigenous movie” in the 2012 Nollywood Awards. He became well-known among Nollywood fans in general and in Nigeria due to his frequent use of certain language slangs, idioms, or clichés.

Read samples of the interview below;

“Chief Mike Adenuga said, ‘what I have for you in this contract is N10 million.’ I have not seen N1 million before when he was pricing me N10 million but I refused. I said, ‘if it’s not N20 million, forget it.’

“He insisted, I insisted. So, I pretend to rise up and said, ‘give me money to go back to Enugu. If there’s any available flight, book it for me let me just quietly go back.’

“They regarded me to now being serious when I rose up. Chief Mike Adenuga said ‘sit down.’ He ordered them to bring documents for signing. They brought and I signed.

“From that moment uhuru dance started. I did it diplomatically in the office. I didn’t want them to know that N20m was a big deal [to me]. But it was the most wonderful thing [to me] at the moment.”
