The Nigeria Film Industry which is popularly referred to as Nollywood is one of the largest film industries in the world. Annually, Nollywood produces and release about 2,500 films. Some of which end up at Netflix, Showmax and other streaming platforms.

Huge amounts of monies are spent in producing a single movie. Therefore, the producers will be looking forward to recouping their investments and make profits. Filmmakers get their monies back through online streaming, DVD sales, special screenings, theatrical screenings among other avenues.

Therefore, we are looking at the 5 highest-grossing Nigerian Movies of all time. Note that, revenues form theater screening, online streaming, DVD sales and special screenings outside English speaking West Africa are not included in the gross total. The lists are as follows;

1. Battle on Buka Street (2022)

Battle on Buka Street is directed by Funke Akindele and Tobi Makinde, released on 16th December, 2022. The film which follows the rivalry between two women who happen to start food business on the street is produced by Funke Ayotunde Akindele Network (FAAN) and FilmOne Entertainment.

Battle on Buka Street has an IMDb rating of 8.6/10, and a Box Office revenue of ₦668,423,056 placing it a the number one positions.

2. Omo Ghetto: The Saga

The Saga also known as Omo Ghetto 2 is a 2020 Nigerian gangster comedy film co-directed by Funke Akindele and JJC Skillz. The film stars Funke AkindeleChioma AkpotaNancy IsimeEniola BadmusBimbo ThomasDeyemi Okanlawon and Mercy Aigbe in the lead roles. This was the second film in the Omo Ghetto franchise and it was also the sequel to the 2010 trilogy film Omo Ghetto. The film had its theatrical release coinciding with Christmas on 25 December 2020 and was opened to extremely positive reviews from critics.

Omo Ghetto is a box office success it is currently standing at ₦636,129,120 making it number two on our least.

3. The Wedding Party (2016)

The Wedding Party is a 2016 Nigerian romantic comedy drama directed by Kemi Adetiba. It premiered on 8 September 2016 at the Toronto International Film Festival in Canada and on 26 November 2016 at Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos. The film was released worldwide on 16 December 2016, and became the highest grossing Nigerian film; a record which was broken in 2017 by its sequel The Wedding Party 2.

The Wedding Party currently has a gross total of ₦452,288,605, placing it on the third position.

4. The Wedding Party – part 2 (2017)

The Wedding Party 2: Destination Dubai is a 2017 Nigerian romantic comedy drama film directed by Niyi Akinmolayan. It is a sequel to The Wedding Party, which was released in December 2016. Principal photography for the film, which was shot in Lagos and Dubai, began in May 2017. 

It is currently the fourth highest grossing Nigerian film of all time with a total of ₦433,197,377

5. Chief Daddy (2018)

Chief Daddy is a 2018 Nigerian comedy drama film directed by Niyi Akinmolayan, written by Bode Asiyanbi and produced by Mosunmola Abudu and Temidayo Abudu, which was released in December 2018. It starred popular Nollywood actors and actresses Funke Akindele Bello, Kate Henshaw, Nkem Owoh, Joke Silva, Patience Ozokwor, Richard Mofe Damijo and Racheal Oniga.

Chief Daddy currently has a gross total of ₦387,540,749, placing it at number five.
