Olufunke Ayotunde Akindele-Bello popularly known as Funke Akindele or Jenifa, is a Nigerian filmmaker, director, actress, politician and producer. She came to the limelight with the series titled “Jenifa’s Diary” in which she played the role of Jenifa, hence her nickname, Jenifa.
Akindele has moved on to become one of the successful filmmakers in Nigeria and has won a lot of fan admirations around the world. The producer cum politician has cemented her name when it comes to the AMVCA.
In last year’s AMVCA, Akindele was awarded Best Actress in a Comedy increase her tally to five. Winning this award five times has made her an icon when it comes to comedy in Nigeria and for that matter West Africa.
Her Award Journey:
For her role in “The Return of Sheri Koko”, Akindele was awarded the Best Actress in a Comedy at the second edition of AMVCA in 2014.
Subsequently in 2016 and 2017 editions of the AMVCA, Akindele was awarded the Best Actress in Comedy, giving her the second and third awards respectively.
Akindele also won the Best Actress in a Comedy at the 2020 AMVCA for her spectacular performance in “Moms at War”, making it her fourth count for the award.
In the 2022 edition of the AMVCA, Akindele was also award the Best Actress in a Comedy for her hard work in 2022 starring in “Omo Ghetto: The Saga”.
The amazing comedy queen was in the race for her six award at this years AMVCA for her performance in “Battle on Buka Street.” She however lost the award to Bimbo Ademoye who emerged as the Best Actress in a Comedy.
The talented comedy queen has also been acknowledged for her hard-work by the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) and the Nigeria Entertainment Award (NEA) for various categories.
