Filming of Deadpool 3 Officially Starts

It was beginning to seem like this day would never arrive, but Deadpool 3 production has now started. Ryan Reynolds, the star of Deadpool 2, has been attempting to get a sequel created ever since the film’s debut in 2018. Deadpool 3 was formally revealed as being in production last year. Reynolds would reprise his role as Deadpool in the sequel, and Hugh Jackman would play Wolverine as well. The threequel would essentially be the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s take on The Odd Couple. Since then, Nov. 8, 2024, has been set as the date of release.

It has been hinted that filming might start soon in recent months. On social media, Jackman has been sharing behind-the-scenes photos of his Wolverine training. Reynolds had previously stated that filming would begin right before the summer of 2023. Production has now been officially launched, according to a post made on Stefan Kapicic’s Instagram Stories. The actor, who plays Colossus again in the sequel, uploaded a picture on Instagram with the caption, “Deadpool 3 has started production today,” followed by the word, “confirmed.” Below is a screenshot of the Instagram Stories post.

There are other confirmed returning characters for the sequel besides Kapicic. Morena Baccarin will reprise her role as Vanessa in the new Deadpool movie, as will Rob Delaney play Peter, Leslie Uggams will play Blind Al, Brianna Hildebrand will play Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Shioli Katsuna will play Yukio, and Karan Soni will play Dopinder. In unnamed parts, Matthew Macfadyen and Emma Corrin have also joined the cast.

Following his previous collaborations with Ryan Reynolds on Free Guy and The Adam Project, Shawn Levy is directing Deadpool 3. The script was written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, with edits made by Reynolds, Levy, and Zeb Wells. Along with Kevin Feige, Reynolds and Levy are also producing.

Although the movie also formally inserts Deadpool into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we shouldn’t anticipate a less verbose merc. The movie will be the first in the MCU to receive a R rating, and that has been verified. But to do anything less just wouldn’t seem like a Deadpool movie, so Feige has decided to give Reynolds and Co. the go-ahead to keep Deadpool 3 R-rated. Feige’s enthusiasm for the undertaking is obvious.

“It’s amazing. And we’ve got Hugh Jackman coming back for our first Deadpool film within the MCU,” Feige told EW about the threequel. “That’s our first R-rated film. To have Hugh come back is incredible… For him, and for me, and I think for all of the fans of Marvel, it’s unbelievable what has happened in those 23 years. It’s very full-circle having him come back in this new Deadpool film.”

Deadpool 3 will be released in movie theaters on Nov. 8, 2024.
