In honor of the occasion, Fella Makafui announced on Instagram that she would be playing Abena in the upcoming second season of Anikulapo, a series that delves into pre-colonial life.
Producer of the award-winning Nigerian film, Kunle Afolayan, revealed in June of this year that Ghana will serve as the filming location for Season 2.
Juliet Asante, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Film Authority (NFA), revealed Fella’s involvement in the film on Monday, October 7, along with a photo of the actress in motion.
This is a component of Ghana’s goal to work with other African nations in order to provide opportunities for Ghanaian talent to compete internationally.
Under the NFA’s #ShootInGhana initiative, Netflix has approved the Kunle Afolayan-directed series, which will be viewed in more than 191 countries and establish Ghana as a developing location for film production.
Asante conveyed her appreciation for Kunle Afolayan’s willingness to work with her on this project as well as the support provided by the Ministry of Tourism, the Ghana Tourism Authority, and the Ghana Museums & Monuments Board.
She praised Fella Makafui for her diligence and devotion, especially her will to become fluent in Yoruba in order to fulfill her position.
