‘Saving Chris’ is brilliantly curated to highlight a very important topic that has received a lot of attention by governments, charity groups, as well as NGO’s.
The film follows the story of Chris a drug addict who is now undergoing some rehabilitation after drug addiction messed up his life. In a documentary style filmmaking, Chris narrates his encounter with drugs and the consequences thereof.
Drug addiction is a kind of social phenomenon that has rendered a lot of youth useless and hopeless. It has destroyed breadwinners of families, brilliant students, and a lot of future leaders. Director Eddie Nartey’s short film is in effect calling for more attention to be paid to drug addicts, and show them the love they deserve.
‘Saving Chris’ has been successfully selected to participate in this years’ Blackstar Film Festival. Blackstar Film Festival is an annual avenue to celebrate and reward films about and by black and indigenous people across the world. Named after Marcus Garvey’s shipping line ‘Black Star Line’, the festival was founded in 2012 by Maori Karmeal Holmes.
Eddie Nartey has transitioned from an actor to a producer and a director. He has a lot of movies to his credit as an actor. Some of which are ‘somewhere in Africa: the cries of humanity’, ‘pool party’, ‘passion and soul’, Crime to Christ’ just to mention a few.
