On May 9, the organizers of the dumsor vigil notified the police in a letter addressed to the IGP about their intended protest detailing how the vigil will happen.
The Accra Regional Police Command then invited Yvonne Nelson and her fellow organizers of the vigil to a meeting. The meeting took place on May 15, where the police and the conveners discussed the modalities of the vigil.
Following the meeting, the police told the organizers to change the protest’s location since their location is closer to the Jubilee House which is a security area.
The Ghana Police Service is pleading for an injunction to be placed on the planned protest in a lawsuit filed on May 20.
The Conveners have also announced changes to the protest’s previous date and location in a statement that they have distributed.
The statement states that June 8 is the new date for the demonstration. Instead of converging at Revolution Square, which is across from the Jubilee House, protestors will now gather in front of University of Ghana and walk to the Tetteh Quarshie Roundabout, where a podium will be set up for speeches.
Protesters are expected to gather at 2:00 pm and disperse by 10:00 pm, according to the organizers.
The conveners pledged that they will “try as much as possible not to inconvenience other Ghanaians who will be using both ends of the stretch of the road between the University of Ghana and the Tetteh Quarshie Roundabout by allowing the flow of traffic during the protest.”
