Fan convention Comic-Con is the latest event to be affected by the WGA strike which is still ongoing.

Fan convention Comic-Con is the latest event to be affected by the WGA strike which has failed to reach an agreement.

Some of the big movie studios such as Marvel Studios, Netflix, Universal Pictures and others are likely not to make an appearance at this years’ Comic-Con. This decision is attributed to the ongoing strike by the Writers Guild of America (WGA), Deadline confirms in a report.

This unfortunate development is coming at a time when the Writers Guild of America (WGA) is still on strike because talks with the AMPTP has not yielded any results.

Due to the uncertainty, the studios opted against organizing a significant presence in case the writers and/or the performers would be unable to attend. The directors’ decision to approve their agreement with the AMPTP later this evening does appear likely, though.

The Covid-19 outbreak led Comic-Con to postpone its main event in 2020 and 2021, and this is the latest setback.

Several other events with an emphasis on movies and television have also been impacted. There are doubts about whether the September Emmys will take place, and the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour has been postponed.

The change will prevent spectators from learning about or maybe seeing anything from upcoming films like Disney’s Haunted Mansion, the Captain Marvel sequel The Marvels, or Lucasfilm productions like Ahsoka.

Movies like The Exorcist and The Last Voyage of The Demeter, which would have been standard material for Comic-Con, by Universal Pictures, may not see an appearance at the fan convention this year.

Meanwhile, Netflix recently had its own fan gathering in Brazil called Tudum where it discussed the revival of Stranger Things and the planned adaptation of the Chinese science fiction book The Three Body-Problem from the Games of Thrones writers.

Since House of the Dragon won’t return for season two until next year, HBO won’t have a significant presence at Comic-Con this year. However, this decision has nothing to do with the ongoing labor disputes. However, it’s sister streamer Max might go and bring a few unannounced animation projects.

According to insiders with knowledge of some of the studios, there is still a chance that plans could change at the last minute if the labor situation changes.

On a more upbeat note, Sonic the Hedgehog restaurant will open, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem will have a presence.
