Gone are the days we get to watch movies just by buying a CD or renting one, or borrowing from a friend. Technology has rendered channels such as CDs and DVDs useless. Streaming platforms have now taken over, where movies are watched by subscription.

Day-in-day-out, Ghanaian filmmakers are channeling out movies, and most recently series. It is such a daunting task to comb the internet in such for movies to watch after a long day’s work. It is because of this reason that we have taken the responsibility to put together a list of some of the best Ghanaian series out there.

Below are some of the best Ghanaian series currently gaining attention. We have also added where you can watch these series.

1. Accra Medic

One of its kind in the Ghanaian Film Industry, Accra Medic is a medical drama series exploring the medical system of Ghana. The series also, extends to the personal lives of the health practitioners as well as their relationship with fellow workers.

Edward Agyekum Kufuor, Desiree Crenstil, Kweku Elliot, and ‘YOLO’ series star Aaron Adatsi are featured in the series. Emmanuel Apea penned and directed the medical drama.

2. Billionaire’s Wife

They say, use what you have to get what you want. But sometimes you can end up biting more than you can chew. Adepa gets married to Bill Gyimah, a billionaire with a huge family. Everything seem fine until Adepa met with the family.

Adepa through the hard-way had to find out that being a billionaire’s wife is the toughest thing she’s ever done. The drama keeps unfolding as Adepa gets to know the family of Mr. Gyimah.

Danny Adotey directed the series which features, Kingsley Yamoah, Collins Amlalo, Roselyn Ngissah and Andriana Akua Amegbor among others.

3. Inside Out

Another Ghanaian series you must consider adding to your watch list is ‘Inside Out’. The series tells the story of Soraya who had to cut short her national service to go undercover to help vindicate her mother of murder. Soraya has to go toe-to-toe with Maafio, a rich and powerful woman to help clear her mother of the murder charges.

Due to the obvious police corruption to favor those with deep pockets, Soraya takes the law into her own hands to expose the actual murderers to free her mother from jail.

Directed by Pascal Amanfo, ‘Inside Out’ also stars multi-award-winning actress Akorfa Edjeani, Edinam Atatsi, Jackie Ankrah, Edward Kuffour, and Jeffrey Nortey.

With 2 seasons so far, the series follows the story of Dede, a brilliant girl who hails from a poor home. Despite the efforts of the father to see Dede through her education, the machinations of her step-mother prevents that from happening.

Naive Dede is lured by her stepmother to leave her family and work as a house help in the home of the Robertson’s. The Robertson’s are a very rich and powerful family. As Dede struggles to achieve her dreams, she falls in love with the youngest son of the Robertson’s.

In Dede, Joselyn Dumas plays Dede’s stepmother Felicity; Adjetey plays Dede’s father; Anita Erskine portrays the Robertson household’s strict matriarch; and James Gardiner plays the Robertson family’s cunning older son.

Dede is directed and produced by multi-award-winning Ghanaian filmmaker Shirley Frimpong-Manso.

5. To have and To Hold

If you think nothing can go wrong on your wedding day, then you have not watched ‘To Have and To Hold’. Imagine just finding out that the marriage you have been in for a good of years is just a lie. Watch this series to see all the suspends and drama unfold.

The series stars Zynnell Zuh as the go-getter Kuukua and Lydia Forson as the ambitious and career-driven Akosua, whose ten-year marriage turns out to be a deception. Naa Ashorkor plays the gentle and trusting housewife Enyonam.

The series is directed by Ghanaian filmmaker Ivan Quashigah.
