Speaking in an interview with popular media personality, Chude Jideonwo, Chinedu recounted what happened after a doctor told his mother of the condition. He was very disturbed after the doctor broke the news to his mother.
Chinedu mentioned that, at a point he thought of ending his life because of the condition. This is because he wasn’t growing normally like other children, and he was also being bullied by students in school.
Giving all the credit to his mother, the celebrated actor touched on the encouragement and support from his mother in his difficult times. On a rather jovial note, he said, his life could have been over if he had grown up in Lagos.
“Something happened when I was nine years and six months old. I remember the doctor saying to my mum; ‘Madam, what he has is stunted growth.’
“That was when I started hearing the words, stunted and retarded growth. I cried several times because I was bullied in school and even at home because I wasn’t growing properly. It got bad, there were times I thought of ending it all. Thank God I no grow for Lagos because Third Mainland Bridge no far o [laughs]” Chinedu shared.
The partnership with his longtime friend and colleague actor Osita Iheme brought a lot of movies full of drama and comedy to the homes of many people. The two are popularly referred to as Aki and Pawpaw.
They have featured in many movies with a lot of Nollywood legends to bring joy and happiness to make homes.
Chinedu mentioned that “there was this chemistry there.” when he met with Osita for the first time.
